Last week I was stumped for a lunch idea and poked around in frig and pantry. I’ve been trying to include more legumes in my diet, so I thought of combining some mild flavored beans with the tuna. The green onion was on hand for another recipe, and the barbecue sauce was a last minute inspiration!
This recipe makes a solid nutrition contribution too, providing:
- Protein (to help maintain muscle mass)
- Fiber (for good digestive healthy)
- Omega 3 fatty acids (to support brain and nervous system)
I hope you enjoy it. Please comment on Facebook if you have more ideas to share about using foil packs of tuna.

1 packet (2.6 ounce) hickory smoked tuna
½ cup cooked white beans (I used canned low sodium Great Northern Beans)
1 green onion, sliced
2 tbsp. barbecue sauce
Lightly stir together tuna, beans, and green onion. Drizzle with barbecue sauce.
Serve with pepper strips or other raw vegetables and whole grain crackers.
